Well, I am a transplant to Florida (23 years now!), originally from Michigan and still root for the Wolverines in Seminole territory. My boss is from Ohio so we have had some banter during collegiate football season. Speaking of which, I work in government for an elected official, and have for the past 17 years (which I find absolutely amazing!). I am truly one of the lucky ones who enjoys going to work.
I have volunteered in various organizations but the bulk of my time's been spent with animal advocacy. Let me use this forum to say "Just Fix 'em!" if you have pets. And if you are looking for a pet, please visit your local animal shelter, humane society or breed rescue organizations. There you will find the perfect match and be the recipient of adoration and appreciation. Make a lifetime commitment to your four-legged friend.
There are 3 canines that welcome me to their home everyday (for I know I just pay the bills). They help me see the simplest of joys.
What else? I love to bake desserts and cookies for family and friends. I play tennis, love to ride (though no longer own horses), learning piano, have a broad base of musical tastes (?), from classical (Gymnopedies), piano (Jim Brickman, Danny Wright), R&B(Chakka, Teddy, Marvin), Reggae (UB40, Jimmy Buffet), folk (Nanci Griffith, James Taylor) to Country (Marty Stuart, Allison Krauss, Mary Chapin-Carpenter). Love baseball (GO BRAVES!) and hockey (Thanks for the memories, GREAT ONE!). I also love to travel the States and try to capture the nuances of communities through bed & breakfasts versus hotels along the interstate. Flowers and landscaping are sacred blessings for me but I oft times wish for a housekeeper.
I was the shy quiet one in school then something happened in my senior year and I haven't stopped talking since! I am playing catch-up on reading and confess to reading Ms. Austen's works for the first time after catching the rebroadcast of PP2. Then I found this wonderful circle of friends. Through the pleasure of reading the stories from our group of authors (whose work beats out just about every published sequel to JA's stories) I became an avid reader again. It's become a cherished treat.
Thank you for this site, for the friendships formed and inspiration given, and for energizing me enough to try my own hand at writing.

Well, for a start, Janey Mac isn't my name. Aoife is, but I figured the vowel:consonant ratio might be too much for people to handle :-). "Janey Mac" is an expression of suprise here in Ireland- there's even a little rhyme that goes "'Janey Mac me shirt is black/ What'll I do for Sunday?'/'Go to bed and cover your head/ And don't get up until Monday'"
Now there's a piece of information you never wanted to hear!Well, I was born on the 18th of March 1983. I live about 20 miles outside Dublin city on a little back road that really needs resurfacing. I have a mammy, a daddy, a brother and a dog. My brother is 12, and the bane of my existence, but there'sa not much I can do about him save homicide, and I'm not that kind of person...GBH, maybe... :-) My dog is a golden cocker spaniel that reminds me sooooo much of Charles Bingley from P&P2 that I have to keep reminding myself his name is Benjy.
I really love Jane Austen (obviously, or I wouldn't be here.) The first book of hers I read was P&P, when I was the only one of a class of thirty who enjoyed it. (Actually, I was probably the only one who read it at all.) I've got the video of P&P2, and have taped Emma & S&S off the telly. I have 3 copies of P&P, two of Emma and one of the rest, except Northanger Abbey. I can't seem to find it anywhere. It is extremely vexing! I also have two friends who don't think I'm pathetic for being such an obsessive! (Of course, I have far more who think I'm nuts, but that's another story.) One of 'em is a Dwiggie, and the other loves Jeremy Northam as much as I do.
The other things I like (am obsessed with?) are Star Wars, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The X Files (I'm a shipper) and Irish Rebel songs. I can't sing, but do I let that stop me?
I also like Leonard Cohen, and if anyone knows of a teenager who likes him, let me know pleeeeeze, because I'm sick of hearing my friends say, "My Dad likes him." Well, that's better that "Who?", I suppose, but still!
My hobbies are judo (green belt), ju-jitsu (just started, yellow belt), and speech and drama. My mam teaches me, and I've caught myself complaining about Jennifer Ehle's diction in P&P2!
Well, I've written lots. I hope to post a story eventually. (As soon as I think of one.) I love the DWG. This is Aoife O'Connor, signing off! (Grania, if you read this, yes, I am laughing at you in Baldongan!)

I am 20 years old. Currently attending college to get a degree in education. I have a serious passion for art, music, and ballet; however, I enjoy making ceramic pottery and jewerly. I have a knack for that kind of stuff. But my most favorite of all is reading especially JA novels. My most favorite at this point is P&P. The first time I ever heard of Jane Austen was when I was watching the A&E version of Emma. Few weeks later I checked out the book from the library. Ever since then I hvae been hooked. Currently am reading S&S and intend continue reading her work. Most recently I have writing my own stories on the board as well as reading others. I want you people to know I love this website.

Born: 1975, Calgary, Alberta
Hair: brunette, my friends call me a blonde in denial
Spouse: none; am substituting the drumming of fingers for a meaningful relationship
Kids: none; why do you think I'm drumming?
Family: nuclear, eldest of two daughters, plus one dog
Education: BA in English Lit at U of Ottawa, finished last spring
Faith: Christian, currently without a church *sniff*
Job: answering letters for the government
Favorite book: Pllllllleeeeeeeaaaaaassssseeeeee don't make me pick one!
Okay, favorite Lit class: Mmmmmmilton! (There, that wasn't so hard!)
Favorite movie genre: the musical! & anything Star Wars, oh--and Veggietales
Favorite composer: I'd have to pick one of Handel, Palestrina, or John Rutter (also a very big fan of Negro spirituals, but those are all by Anonymous)
Favorite dance: the Rhumba
# of choirs I've been in: four, if you count High School as one (otherwise, too many to count!)
Favorite JA novel: well, Emma was the first I read. I got it for Christmas one year, it sat on my shelf for a year, and when I took it down, I swallowed it whole! I think Persuasion could well become my favorite, but I still haven't got a copy.OK, before I write this whole thing in stat form, and keep jumping into whole sentences.... I found RoP last summer, while somewhat bored at work (trust the government!), and from there I stumbled on DWG in December (feels like it's been longer!). I still read and post from work--cushy life, no?
I have yet to write a story for DWG. Let's just say fiction is not my strong point (neither is n/f, as you may be able to tell from the dryness of this account of my life!) Besides, I haven't come up with a great idea yet. I usually only write poetry, and I've been slacking off at that too. That, and I am trying to keep my head out of the clouds, so I'd have to avoid romance, which rather limits storylines.
Stuff that I do/try to find time to do: sewing (cure for shopping bug--tell yourself you can make it more cheaply and more nicely than buying it!), embroidery (hardanger is my newest thing), solo and choral singing (I like Italian, but am currently working on Elizabethan songs), playing piano rather badly, going to movies (go see Red Violin, if it's ever released in the States!), spending too much time at work at DWG!, reading my long list of books I never read during school, spending inordinate amounts of time arguing theology over email with people I could just as easily phone, arguing theology over the phone when it would be less stressful and more logical over email, church hopping/shopping (could never decide which best describes the activity), looking at the sky--maybe more of a pastime, but I sure do it enough!

Basic stuff
*Lynn is my middle name. I usually just go by Jennifer, but my friends call me Jenn.
*I’m a So. Cal. native, born and raised. I’ve seen snow once in my life. I remember it being cold and wet. I don’t think snow has changed much since then. I’ve had a few of my East coast dwiggie friends take pity on me b/c we don’t really ‘experience’ the changing of the seasons, but will they still pity me when it’s 70 degrees in December? hehehe.
*I’m Filipino-American, second generation. I have a close relationship with my extended family which makes for large family gatherings. My husband has a large immediate family. I got married in 2001. Our wedding guest total was 186 and approximately 150 were just family members--and they all showed up.
*My birthday is October 10, 1975. Although people tell me I’m still relatively young, I can’t help feeling this particular kind of panic that I’m closer to 30 than I’ve ever been in my life. *ducks*
*I’m an English teacher. I teach at the middle school level (6th grade) and find it thoroughly challenging, but exciting--most times. Eventually, I would like to work at the university level with prospective teachers.DWG stuff
*If you haven’t read any of my stories, I’m a mush-head romantic through and through. I enjoy romantic-comedy movies, but slightly favor the classics. Roman Holiday and almost anything Audrey Hepburn is good. My favorite modern romantic-comedy is Sleepless in Seattle with Sixteen Candles a close second. I’m still getting over my crush on Jake Ryan!
*I love to read. My English major sensibilities kick in from time to time. I didn’t think I would enjoy BJD b/c it was so...modern. But, of course I soon got over that. heehee. All time favorite is P&P. I’ve discovered Georgette Heyer and Julia Quinn (thanks Victoria Lynn) and am thoroughly enjoying their books.
*I have just discovered the joys of writing. In fact, I used to hate writing. I didn’t enjoy writing until my junior year of college, and it didn’t become such a consuming endeavor until I discovered DWG. *shameless plug* So, if you’re a mush lover, you might like some of my stories. My current story is “The Task at Hand”. (I hope to have it finished by its anniversary date in April.) Or just search by author, Jennifer Lynn.
*I discovered DWG through RoP and BoI. I lurked for a couple years and just recently delurked in 2001.Harsh realizations I’ve recently discovered...
*People expect certain things from you and treat you differently when you hit your mid-twenties. They treat you like. . . like . . . an adult. Just b/c I bought a washer and dryer, doesn’t mean that I’m my mother.
*Getting married adds to that particular kind of treatment. Parents think they can talk to you about sex. *shudders*
*I miss being a college student. Although I enjoy teaching, I miss being a student. The harsh thing about this is I can’t go back living the “college life”. Not that I don’t enjoy Top Ramen and pancakes, but all the time?Miscellany
*I’ve often been associated by family and friends with the neurotic side of Monica on the TV show Friends. I will not confirm or deny this. All I have to say, Post-it Glue is some pretty fantastic stuff.
*I want to become a published writer. This is kind of a secret. Well, it was a secret. I ‘ve been investigating how a person becomes a published writer and find it a very daunting process, but I’m not at the point of complete discouragement.
*I’m 5’7”. Although this is pretty normal for the average American female, I’m freakishly tall for a Filipino. I’m the tallest among my female relatives. I always feel like King Kong whenever I stand next to my petite cousins.
*I give my husband the impression that sports are merely tolerable, but secretly, I enjoy it very much. Baseball is my favorite with basketball a close second.
*Speaking of which, husband. I’m still getting used to saying that. Also, I know this is such a cheesy-mush-head thing to say, but I love being referred to as Mrs.--. *sigh* I know. I know. I’m hopeless. (See my story “What’s in a Name?”)And to close. . . DWG has truly been a place of special comfort. I don’t know what I’d do if this place didn’t exist.
#10 from the 80 Ways of Dwiggiedom:
10.Your friends no longer try to understand you but just stare pitifully when ever the words Jane, Austen, pride, prejudice, Darcy, Lizzy, Wentworth, The Letter, etc come out of your mouth;
Here, I’m not pitied and I’m *very* thankful for that.

I'm a student who has lived most of my life in Melbourne, Australia. I approached the novels of Jane Austen with some trepidation - my usual literary fare swings more towards the black humour and political paranoia - so I was completely and utterly surprised when I fell hopelessly in love with the characters of 'Pride & Prejudice' when it was thrust upon me via the Victorian educational system. Victoria being the state I live in, not the time period. My teachers are not puritans.
I write, though not as often as I'd like (see aforementioned Victorian educational system - my teachers are not puritans, but they are fairly forceful all the same) and not nearly at the standard I've found here. I have a website for my writings, though it is as of yet incomplete.
So it's nice to meet you all, and to have a forum for discussion of my newfound JA obsession. I'm slowly making my way through the books, so much enjoyment is ahead of me.

Let's see... I'm female and I was born 2/5/84 making me 15 right now. I go to a private school in Watertown, CT called Taft and I'm a sophomore this year. My love for Jane Austen pretty much started last summer when I read Sense and Sensibility for my summer reading for school. It was a lot different from anything I had ever read and was a little hard to get through. After seeing the movie (w/ Emma Thompson & Kate Winslet) I understood it much better and thought that the Regency era was very interesting. I had heard a little about Pride and Prejudice from Jane Austen and finally read it early this year and automatically fell in love with it. I read it twice in one week and then I found the Republic of Pemberley and learned about Jane Austen's other novels and the A&E/BBC version of P&P. I was dying to see it and finally rented it a couple of months later. I loved it right away and it wasn't until last month that I bought it and I've memorized it by now. During the past year I also read Persuasion, Emma, Mansfield Park, and Northanger Abbey. I'm in the process of reading Lady Susan/Sandition/The Watsons. In order of favorite: P&P, NA, MP, Emma, S&S, Persuasion. I'm definitely hooked to Jane Austen and to the stories here at DWG. I'm also in a club at Yahoo.com. I'm so very glad I found this place and I plan to spend a lot of time here in the future!

Probably like most of you, I would like to write here something witty and funny that could, at least, be a shade of the wit of Jane Austen. However, my fingers cannot create an autobiographical masterpiece here (I know it is my fault because I did not practise enough). Yet, here I go:
Name: Joanna Maria Gawlicka
Nationality: Polish
Languages: Polish, English, German, French and Spanish
Way of living: studying law
Hobby: reading (Jane Austen, but not only), writing (FanFic, but not only), Formula 1 (Michael Schumachr is the BEST)

Hey everyone! I've been lurking around here on and off since about 97-98. I love this site so much, most of my friends don't even know who Jane Austen is, so it's a little hard to discuss anything Austen-related with them.
First, a little about me: I'm not a native of Atlanta, or even Georgia for that matter. I'm an army brat, and have lived in Virginia (twice), NY, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina (two different places) and Germany(four different places). I went to college about an hour NW of Atlanta, which kind of explains what I'm doing here now. I love to travel, and have fortuantely been all across Europe (but I have yet to go farther west than Alabama). My favorite place I've ever been is Venice(despite the smelly canals). I would love to go to the UK one day. I also enjoy playing the piano (badly), and cooking (when I'm in the mood).
I've been a huge Jane Austen fan since I was 12 (I'm now 23), and (surprise, surprise) Pride and Prejudice is my favorite book of all time, with Persuasion running close behind. I was first introduced to Austen-mania during a visit to the library. There is a series that takes classic works and condenses them into a MUCH shorter form, like a comic book. After reading it about a dozen times, I finally bit the bullet and read the actual novel. It was one of the hardest books I'd ever read (I WAS only 12), but I stuck with it, and every time I reread it, I uncovered something new. That's what I love about Jane Austen, you can get so caught up in the language and in the wording. Other books I enjoy: the Anne of Green Gables series (the first one is my favorite), Jane Eyre (although I could do without the chapters where Jane meets her cousins), the Harry Potter series (anxiously awaiting the 5th book), Anne Perry books (I love both the Pitt and the Monk series), and Agatha Christie (am currently trying to read all of her books and short stories; I know, I have no life).
My favorite Austen movie is (of course) P&P2. I also love Persuasion, even though they are both so different in their tone, and in the was they were produced. I also love Hitchcock (Shadow of a Doubt is my favorite, the symbolism of the two Charlies and the theme of twos throughout the movie always blows my mind), Audrey Hepburn movies, Much Ado About Nothing, Twelfth Night (can you tell I love all things British?) My favorite musicals are Singin' in the Rain (I have to LOL everytime Donald O'Connor does his "Make 'em Laugh" routine; IMHO, he MADE the movie) and 42nd Street (classic Busby Berkley; this movie has got to be responsible for every backstage cliche in existance). My favorite western has got to be Stagecoach. It has everything: the dashing outlaw, the prostitute with the heart of gold, the gentleman Southern gambler, the corrupt businessman, the soldier's stalwart wife, and of course, the calvery.
(I also enjoy using parentheses)

So...it only took me about 4 years to start writing this thing. I guess that means I'm either extremely lazy or I just don't have anything interesting to say about myself. Actually, I think it's both.
I was born on a cold February evening 1984 in Helsinki, Finland. I've lived all my life in Helsinki, and even though I do dream of studying/working somewhere abroad sometime in the future, right now my life seems to be rather firmly planted here, because I have just started studying Classical philology (Latin and Greek) at the University of Helsinki. However, I don't really expect that being fluent in Latin will ever give me a living, so I probably will end up finding something else to study eventually. But before I can make up my mind on what I want to do when I grow up (if I ever do) I'll be content studying Latin and Greek, for I've always been interested in languages. I've studied Swedish, English and French at school and am quite fluent in all of them. I've also made some attempts to learn Italian and German, but I never really had the time to get any further than learning the first steps. My latest discovery has been Tolkien's Quenya, although my friends and family will never understand why I should spend my time learning a language that doesn't really even exist. Details.
Most of my spare time I spend chatting and avoiding all homework. Sometimes I venture out to go see a movie or have a chat with real people, and occassionally I even make it to the lessons at the University. I also enjoy reading books, Jane Austen (obviously) being one of my favourite authors (although it grieves me that she hasn't been publishing anything new lately ). My favourite JA books are Persuasion and Pride and Prejudice, and least favourites probably Mansfield Park and Northanger Abbey.
I guess that's about it...almost. For those who have already figured out that Josie isn't really a Finnish name: you are absolutely right. I just hate using my real name because no-one ever spells it correctly...but anyway, just in case anyone is interested, my real name is Annemari.
(p.s. don't mind the typos, I do them all the time and usually i'm too lazy to correct them)

I am the wife of William, the mother of Tara and Amber, and the grandmother of Austin, Tori, and Celeste. I am a devout Christian. I was a programmer for AT&T, and retired in March after thirty years. My current hobbies are hand-crafting soap, and writing. I have written one entire Regency novel, and have five others in various stages of completion. I write poetry, and I have started a science fiction novel. I have written a series of childrens' stories about cats and dogs. I have not yet been published, as I have not really pursued publication, as I have a terrible fear of rejection.
I picked up a copy of Pride and Prejudice for the first time in high school, and thus began a lifelong love of All Things Austen. I have been looking for a home like Pemberly all my life, and find the real estate here quite within my reach.

Here are a few "fast facts" on me (for the curious)
born: Fleurimont, Quebec in 1978.
family: nuclear, one sister and one brother both younger.
education: BA in history and classics, MA in History.
Writing career: first post on DWG "Trials and Tribulations (on a University Campus)" was my first attempt at creative writing since highschool! (So figure I was about 16. Eeek!) My previous writing attempt?: A really bad fantasy novel (about 30,000 words written) I never finished. No you can't read it. (and even if I wanted you to I'd have to type the whole thing out again... it was saved on a 5 1/2 inch floppy)
How did I find DWG?: a fellow poster pointed me in the right direction after we discovered a mutual infatuation with JA.
What do I hope to accomplish by posting here?: Ideally I'd love to hone my story telling abilities. My one great ambition in life is to write novels. Helpful suggestions are always welcome. What better way to practice than writing fan-fic?
How I discovered JA: Rented the 1995 version of Persuasion. Ran to the library to find copy of book. Addict ever since.
Novels in order of preference: P&P, Per, Em, S&S, Mans and NA.

I'm a senior in high school in NC, and I'll be starting college at UNC-Asheville in the fall. I got hooked on Jane Austen just a few short months ago when I read Sense and Sensibility for my term paper. I absolutely fell in love with her characters and immediately started on Pride and Prejudice. I also started looking for Austen stuff on the internet and found this site. Great stuff! I love your stories! They are absolutely marvelous, and from what I've seen so far, the Dwiggies are an interesting group.

I'm a big Jane Austen fan; have been ever since I read my parents' copy of P&P when I was 10 years old. I studied JA whilst studying in the UK as an exchange student, persuing my degree in Anthropology/Sociology. Have also got a BS in Business Mgt. and presently am a database programmer for the Human Resources dept at a major textiles firm in North Carolina. My mother was born in the UK to a British mum and a Texan father; they moved to the US when she was 2. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, Calif., and moved to North Carolina with my family when I was 15 and have lived here ever since except for the aforementioned term in the UK and a couple of years in the Washington DC area.
One legacy from my mother and grandmother is that I tend to spell like a British person; it drives my assistant crazy as she tries to keep up with my weird writing. LOL
My favourite JA novel is P&P
My favourite JA character is Elinor from S&SKatS

To start of with, I found this place almost a year ago or it's been a year, I cannot recall. I was first introduced to Jane Austen's novels in high school. Once I started reading P&P, I could not stop. I had to finish it and ever since then, I was hooked. It is still one of my favourite book of all time.
Before finding this place, I have always wondered whether there were sequels written by other authors about P&P. So I got on the internet and I happen to find this place amongst the many list of sites to choose from. I am extremely grateful for this site because there are so many wonderful stories out there. It allows me to live in a fantasy world where JA's character seems to live on & come alive.
I am also in love with "Anne of Green Gables" I have all 8 books and I love them. Some of my favourite quotes from AOGG are:"Tomorrow is always fresh with no mistakes in it"
"True friends are always together in spirits"
"It's not what the world holds out for you that matters, it's what you bring to it"I just thought I'd share those with you.

Am twenty, attend university and that's all. Bloody uninteresting life, isn't it?
Well, the world in my head is much more interesting.
At present, oh well, for the last three years, there's been an on-going discussion whom of the Austen hunks I should worship. Believe me, it gives you quite a headache when all your shizoprenic egos yell at the same time. Little example? Here we go:
Darcy is soooo handsome and passionate... - But he can't write a decent love letter! I say Wentworth is our man. I can go no longer in silence - Oh, do shut up! Knightley is everything that is perfect. - NOOOOOO, Brandon, it has to be Brandon! He's Alan Rickman! - Well, he has a terribly huge nose. I'm sorry, but you are all wrong. Tilney is perfect for us. He's so mature and witty and he doesn't mind if we read rather silly novels. - *huff* I don't read silly novels. I'm the perfect ego. - Oh, yes, you do. Remember last week they start bickering in the background - Colonel Hotpants is a conversationalist, too. And he's a Studmuffin! - We need passion! What do we want with witty conversation? We have our gay friends for that. No, passion is required! In vain have I struggled - Last bit of sensibility runs in and beats all the egos upside the head, effectively silencing them (read: beating them unconscious). Sorry 'bout that.Scared? Yeah, me too. And it's like that ALL the time! You haven't heard them when the discussion is really heated.
Wish I'd never seen any filmed version of JA's! Then I could have gone on living my life (insanity-free, I thank you), reading and re-reading the books again and again and had probably settled on Wentworth (ooooh, that letter!).
But noooooo, I had to go and watch the movies. Grmph. And since then bloody Colin Firth and Anthony Calf and Jeremy Northam and Alan Rickman ... you get the picture ... are marching up and down in my head. (And no, Laurence Olivier is not marching. In retrospective (about half a year after seeing the film), I always think P&P0 is extremely funny but each time I happen to see it again I become extremely angry b/c they butchered the book so much! But somehow I end watching it whenever they're broadcasting it. Very bad for blood pressure.)
No, I take that back. I can't imagine life without the wet shirt or The Look. *siiiiiiiiiiiigh*
Short excursion to real life:
I'm not without aims in life. Short term goal is to find MY Mr. Darcy (will undergo yearly change until I'm 28 and trying to find MY Wentworth and when I'm thirty I'll go and join a convent).
Long term goal is to take over the world by the means of Vodka. (So you better get used to calling me Her Highness, The One And Only, Our Beloved Regent!) My fellow regents (two of my best friends) and I have already divided the world. Oh, and I better warn you. Persons that arouse our displeasure will be send to the distilleries in Siberia or to the grand ice plantages in Antarctica. MWUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I case you wondered... No, I'm not on drugs. Well, except the legal ones, being nicotine and coffeine (lots and LOTS of coffeine).
...erm...yes...well...that's all, I guess.

I'm guessing I'm one of the youngest people here. I'm 14 live in Australia and only know TWO other people that have read Jane Austen. And only one of them is as obsessed as I am. I read PnP when I was in....year six I think (11 years old) and then I saw the movie with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle and I was hooked!
I didn't discover this site until the beginning of this year but am making up for lost time by reading EVERY story I can in the archives. I also love anything Regency but have lots of other interests. I won't bore you by telling you about them though....
I love R&B music (Nelly, Destiny's Child etc) but I DO NOT like Britney. Sorry to all those britney fans but I don't see the appeal. I also play piano and violin...there isn't much else about me worth telling....hhhhmmm.....
I also have this uncanny ability to babble on about nothing imparticular-Mrs. Bennet's lung capacity. hehehehe! Unlike some people here-I'm not totally in love with Mr. Darcy but don't despair for I DO luv Lizzy. And I hope no one will shoot me if I say I don't mind Lady Katherine de Bourgh that much either. In some bizarre way she's kinda cool!

I think that I've been holding out on this in the hopes that I'd be able to invent a more interesting life...
My real name is Kathleen... I chose Kathlyn because I couldn't bear to be a numbered Kathleen when I first started haunting Pemberley nearly two years ago (has it really been that long?). I'm a librarian at a small private girls school that happens to have at least 14 "Kathleen" variants on staff and I believe that I was having an identity crisis at the time!
I just turned 30, live in New York City in a two-room studio with my husband, and enjoy reading, going out to hear music (husband is a musician -- the gutterpoets of my e-mail) and watch films. When I'm not here, I'm probably either babysitting (two darling sisters, 2 and 5) or going to a meeting -- church... I'm an "elder" (*snort* - couldn't even leave my twenties before that happened) in a wonderfully small, mission-oriented church.
Other than that -- I like mysteries (Anne Perry is a perennial fave), am a part of a book group (very interesting mix of women that only read contemporary women's fiction), and seem to use punctuation creatively -- but not necessarily correctly,(,,,;:"'!).
I'm tremendously grateful to Ann for her tenacious spirit and committment to this internet community! How many of us would have found a way to continue this after RoP decided that the non-Regency stories had little value?

Other favorite books: Anything by Patricia McKillip or Robin McKinley, "The Mists of Avalon", Sylvia Plath, Dorothy Parker, Emily Dickinson, Shel Siverstein, J.R.R Tolkein, the Amelia Peabody books, and "The Princess Bride." Oh, and the Harry Potter books. (I told you I love reading!)

And any Bond flick with Sean Connery. (My hero!)
Idol: Audrey Hepburn
Most prized possesions: my old-movie poster collection, my much-loved stuffed bear, my books, and my flute.
Favorite place: Cape Hatteras National Seashore. (For me, it will always be the most beautiful place in the world-- and it's only a 2-hour drive!)
Ideal JA hero: Edward's shyness, Darcy's passion, Brandon's utter niceness, and Knightley's noble-ness. And, of course, Henry Tilney's sense of humor.
Personality: I'm a quiet, idealistic person with a wicked sense of humor and a mother-hen impulse that surfaces in the strangest places ... (wry smile.) I don't talk much but I tend to be passionate about, well, everything. And I'm stubborn and reserved.
Other stuff about me: I've lived most of my life in rural North Carolina, but for the last two years I've been a student at Rice University in Houston. (Biocheistry major, but that may well change to English.) I don't quite have a Scarlett O'Hara accent, but it's close! I enjoy writing, but haven't posted any JA fics here -- at least not yet. But I love reading them -- y'all are so talented!
Most important people in my life: My younger sister (Amy), my mother (Susan), my best friend (DJ), my dog (Cassie), and my bear (Koaly).
I think that's about it. :)kw

Well, I hopped over here from The Republic of Pemberley after hearing so much about this place. I'm anxious to snoop around the site and learn just exactly what it is that you do here.
I am an advertising major and Medieval studies minor at Marquette University (Milwaukee, WI), graduating in 2002. Then I will probably go back home to Minnesota and get a good job, get married, have children, and live a long, happy life. Then again, none of that may happen. So...I guess I'll just leave all that in God's capable hands!
I was introduced to Jane Austen when my mother and I watched the 1940's version of P&P when I was 12. But it was not until my eyes first beheld Colin Firth's face as the incarnation of Mr. Darcy, that I felt an insatiable urge to know everything about Miss Austen's works. And that urge has still not been surpressed, no matter how much I feed it!

I'm in my mid thirties. By day, I am a computer consultant who specializes in writing custom database applications. By night, I'm Greg's wife and Allison and Anna's mom.
My first contact with JA was flipping channels and pausing because of CF's face long enough to get hooked. It's been all downhill (or uphill) since then.
I don't post very often, but I'm here at least once a day. I can't post until a story is done or it'll never get finished.

Okay, born July 9th, 1985, so whenever I celebrate my birthday, all my friends are out of the country. Currently I'm enrolled in University of North Carolina @ Chapel Hill, and may I say, culture shock! Well, it's not that bad really, but knowing absolutely NOBODY sure gives you an incentive to try out lots of new things. So for the moment I'm going to the Judo Club, and spending lots of time at the libraries. I'm a younger sister, and use it to my advantage. As in, I'm horribly spoiled.
My first introduction to P&P was a single tape version of P&P2 (it's the only time I've ever seen our VCR dial read 4:44:44-four hours, forty-four minutes, and forty-four seconds, and at the time, that made more of an impression on me than the actual video) and since then my mother and I (who discovered this together) have collected more than four different copies of P&P, a set of all her works, both the video and DVD versions of P&P2, a big beach towel with that famous first sentence written on it, stationary, and a board game of P&P, which is absolutely hilarious. It's my favourite of all her novels, but sometimes I'll get the urge to reread another one randomly.
I like reading kids' books and watching Disney movies, even though I know it'll rot my brain, it's so sweet. I like clever books, like Alice's Adv. in Wonderland, The Phantom Tollbooth, and Catch-22. I love Chicago no matter what the weather's like, although I reserve the right to complain about it, like any true Chicagoan. Sadly enough, I think a good description of me is "an active, useful sort of person", so I'll always sympathize with Charlotte in the stories where she ends up with Mr. Collins.
I love to read, and I used to work in a bookstore (independant, not one of those homogenized chains), which just fueled the addiction. Don't get me started on customers, high school administrations, or religion, cause I can go on for hours on long rants. Okay, I get carried away when I talk about myself, so I'm gonna exercise a whole lot of my will power and stop babbling.

I am 17 years old, and my birthday is on May 16. I live in a suburb of San Diego, and will graduate from high school in June. I plan to go to the College of Creative Studies at the University of California at Santa Barbara and major in literature.
I first read Jane Austen (Sense and Sensibility, of all books) for an English class in 9th grade and I haven't put her down since. My favorite is Pride and Prejudice, but Northanger Abbey comes in a close second. My favorite JA movie is P&P2, but I also like Emma1 & 2, Clueless, and Sense and Sensibility. I found the Republc of Pemberley in 1997 when I was searching for pages on Jeremy Northam, but my activities have since transferred to the DWG! ;)
As far as other literary/cinematic/musical tastes, here is a short list of favorites: E.M. Forrester, Nick Hornby, The X-Files and "Friends" (my current obsession), Dave Matthews (my other current obsession), and "Singin' In The Rain."

After many moons of lurking in the shadows, I figured it was time to step forward and introduce myself. I'm in my early thirties (my love of all things Jane Austen hasn't lessened since my introduction in high school!), and like a certain Austen character, "I am not a great reader and enjoy many things". My personal faves include Persuasion and P & P. I did a bit of traveling through Europe last year in August (5 countries in 25 days - wonderful!) and my goal is to go to England next year to take a look around at the locales mentioned in JA's books. Fanfic is my favorite area of the site, thank you authors for giving me many hours of pleasant diversions!
Hope to hear from my fellow dwiggies!

Okay... I'm 16 going on 17 in only two months from when I posted this. I am finished with high school as I have my GED. I'll be looking into college later this year after my special summer trip. It'll be local, but I'm not sure where.
My first experience with Jane Austen was the Wishbone episode that dealt with P&P. Not the best way to introduce a teenager to JA, but it got me interested. Then I watched A&E's P&P2, and was delighted! I next saw Sense and Sensibility in the theater, and Persuasion through a rental. I then read through the books in the following order: S&S, Persuasion, P&P, MP, NA, and Emma. I actually finished Emma before seeing the Paltrow version of Emma. The next year I saw the A&E version of Emma, then that old version of NA, and then my parents bought me a copy of the BBC version of MP from the 80s. If anything firmly entrenched my dislike of Henry Crawford, it was watching that older version of MP. I have not seen the most recent one, and will not until it comes to the local Blockbuster.
I have a wide range of interests, and also enjoy reading and writing fanfic. I hope to have some JA fic for you to all sink your teeth into soon, but it usually is pushed aside by my Star Trek ideas. My website has many of my Trek stories up, but I still have many more ideas where they came from! I also accept submissions, but there are kind of fic that I will not have on my site. You know, everybody has their own taste.
Favorite stories from the DWG - in no particular order: Kiss and Cry, Just Kiss Me, All Because of You, Janet and Elizabeth, Pride in Space!, Sometimes a Great Notion, Marianne's Perserver, As If By Chance, An Honest Approach, Introducing Puck, The Missing Link, But Seen in a Prudentual Light... (I think that's what it's called), and probably others that aren't coming to me right now. Oh, I also like the Law & Order crossover that one author started.

Firstly I have to say that I hate self-description. The writer usually gets it completely wrong by either over-estimating or under-estimating their accomplishments, which in itself really says a lot more about the person than some long winded description.
I am lucky enough to live in the most beautiful place in Australia (well I think it is) the details of which I won't reveal because everyone will then want to come here and it won't be such a pleasant secret anymore. I have a beach very close to my front door and some quite spectacular rainforest close to my backdoor, which all sounds very nice (and I have to admit I rather like), but for all you northern hemisphere arachnophobes is full of rather deadly red-back spiders and very deadly brown snakes. I haven't even started on the sharks at the beach, some of which I like to go scuba diving with when they congregate for their annual breeding season. So apart from watching sharks shagging and beating off snakes with a stick, I also like to read ....quite a lot! I have given up TV for the brain-deadening, mind-numbing brainwash that it is, and have gone back to the old-ways of reading and story telling. Fortunately in a reasonably short space of time my eyes are protesting and I find that I have evolved to the point where I can now no longer focus on the TV (unless I get glasses) but can read something in front of me quite easily.
I live with my partner, who is beginning to feel he has been overthrown for a computer and keyboard. But if I said Mr Darcy to him he would say 'Who?' , so what am I to do with such an unevolved male. He hates bonnet dramas and can't understand why I want to write about something that didn't happen two hundred years ago. He likes thrillers, sci-fi and horror movies, which I think is absolute trash. Incidentally he also produces video and TV....so he likes to watch a lot of it. Thankfully there are lots of other things that we have in common (we do like the same music) and so we get a long just fine.
I have two boys (3 and 5) who bite my ankles and pull my hair when I am writing (which should prove very handy for dealing with girls when they get to school). Sometimes they are kind enough to laugh at my stories, politely of course as I'm sure they have no idea what I am on about most of the time. One is in training to be a ballet dancer; the other is intent on being a world championship wrestler....so as you can guess they fight a lot. I am still at a loss as to how I managed to produce two children that would want to do either.
I refuse to discuss my day job, which is quite boring, very frustrating, and involves playing around with computers and annoying my managers as much as I can. I delight in sending them e-mails which I know that they will not understand, which is my small, and probably very ineffective way, of getting back at the corporate beast that I work for.
I aspire to be a writer, as we all do. I just have to come up with something good to write about besides Pride and Prejudice, which we all know has been done before, quite well.
That's about it!

My name is Kerry, and I'm addicted to happy endings.
It's true. That's why I love it here. So I've been here a couple of years and have even written a story in which we learned that Edward Ferrars is funny and charming, Lucy Ferrars has bad taste in clothes and James Rushworth & Anne Steele are soulmates. Anyway it occured to me that I ought to inroduce myself.
I've just graduated from a University whose name shall be censored because I'm not overly fond of it and don't need a lawsuit for slander or libel. I wonder which one this would count as? I tend to wonder about strange stuff.
I read Pride and Prejudice for the first time when I was 11 years old (and please excuse the heresy here, my life would lose all meaning if I were excommunicated from the DWG) and I didn't really get it. Then when I was 14, I started watching Days of our Lives (this is still my favourite show) around the same time a teacher recommended Emma to me. Now I'm not trying to suggest that Marlena's possession (you really don't want to know) is at all similar to Mr. Woodhouse or anything, but Days gave me the idea of looking at JA's characters as regular people rather than imaginary characters. With that perspective, I enjoyed Emma so much that I decided to give P&P another chance. And the rest is history. Although the part where I fell out of my chair laughing when I noticed the similarities between Clueless and Emma does bear mentionning.
I think for the sake of not having this intro run to 20 pages I'll end with a quick list of Kerry-related JA facts.
Favourite JA book: Emma
Favourite JA based movie: Emma (with Gwyneth Paltrow and Jeremy Northam)
Favourite JA character: Henry Tilney
JA Adaptation that most made me want to demand my money back: Patricia Rozema's Mansfield Park (summary: Good movie, bad adaptation of MP)
JA character I most resemble: not sure, but I pray it isn't Mrs. Bennet
Favourite JA villain: Lady Susan Vernon
Favourite JA semi-villain: Augusta Elton
Biggest JA disappointment: John Willoughby and Henry Crawford made it to the end of their books (S&S and MP), I had hoped for sort of carriage accident. Although as you may know, I did dispense with Willoughby in one of my stories.
JA character who should have had to marry Mr. Collins: Elizabeth Elliot
JA character who most deserved a Lady Catherine lecture: Isabella Thorpe
JA hero who most redeemed himself at the end of the book: Mr. Darcy
JA hero with the best romantic lines: Capt. Wentworth

Okay, okay, I'm a lurker, I'll admit it. One day, I'll emerge from the woodwork and write a story.......one day....
I'm 18 years old and in my first year of Uni, studying medicine. I grew up on a cattle property in north western Queensland and did school of the air till I was twelve then I went to boarding school.I finally decided to check this place out after my best freind Margie-Louise told me about it......several times....
*jokes sweetie*. I live on college and consequently eat a lot of bad food, get very little sleep, drink far too much and get no work done. Okay, I actually get a lot of work done, I have yet to discover *how* I fit it all in, but when I learn I'll be sure to tell you.I like motorbikes, swimming, horseriding, soccer, footy, action flicks, books of any kind, dirty cowboys (the cocktail) and mustering. I'd probably be a total bloke if it wasn't for Margie who has instilled in me a love of girly movies, ballet - after dragging me along to a million recitals - and shopping. She's also the one who got me started on JA and the rest is history.
If you can't tell from the name, I'm half Irish. My dad was born on the west coast of Ireland and actually went to school with Margie's dad back *home* which is how we met. I've been to Ireland once when I was seven and once to Italy, speak pretty good Italian, very bad Russian and a tiny bit of greek.
I don't have a favourite story here, I think they're all great and everyone who has written one or two or three....you have my sincerest admiration. One day I will officially de-lurk and post a story......promise!!

I'm sixteen years old and i live in a suburb of Columbus, Ohio. This summer, i'm resting and getting ready to brace myself for what looks like a very hard junior year in high school.
i love reading. wherever i go, there is always a book with me. i tend to love the romantic era books, but i read all kinds of classics. sometimes i can't stand the modern books that come out; they are too boring or not difficult enough to be interesting.
i also love music. i have played the piano for 7 years and anytime i need to let emotions out, i just sit and play an emotional song, like my favorite, Beethoven's "Sonata Pathetique." i also take singing lessons, but just for enjoyment. i don't intend to be a famous singer or anything.
another one of my loves is history. i love reading about it and discussing it.
after college, i plan on going to the naval academy or air force academy, and majoring in history and minoring in languages. i plan on being a lawyer and serving my country in the military.
well, that's all about myself. i hope i didn't ramble on too long...

Hola.
Me llamo Kimmie y soy de Ohio.
Oh wait. Sorry.
Hello.
My name is Kimmie (or kimmy) and I am from Ohio. I am 20 years old and I attend Miami University (not in Florida - in little Oxford, Ohio) where I am majoring in Spanish Education (wath out all you mothers - I will be teaching your kids soon. Ha.)
I enjoy reading - but now that I am in college, I find it hard to read a whole lot. My reading usually consists of readings for classes - which does include Spanish literature. (I exceedingly surprise myself every time I realize that I could read a full length novel in Spanish and still understand what is happening.) I'm obsessed with Spanish - can you tell?
Which is cool cuz I went on a cruise this summer and I finally stepped foot into a Spanish speaking country (Mexico - where I continually lightened the weight of my parents' pockets considerably with all the Mexican stuff I wanted).
Anyway - back to the point. What else do I like? Well, men. But never fret, I'm not as bad as Lydia. I'm quite content to do my studying before worrying about boys.
I also like movies - I used to like only happy sappy lovey dovey movies, but lately I like a lot of history movies where people are blowing people up. Ever see Tombstone? the Patriot? Pirates of the Caribbean (okay, so that doesn't exactly count - but I did name my car after Captain Jack)
I am part of a Christian Fellowship on campus - so I like to hang out a lot. Because that's what we do (well, we also read the Bible too - but we're still the goofiest crowd on campus you will find.)
Hmm. I like to write. But I do not like reading what I wrote several years ago as I found about last night. I just want to go burn it when I realize how mushy I was back then. Ugh. Men aren't really like that in real life.
Anyways. I'll stop boring you now. Go look at my website. Go.
And I'll see you around.

I´m 16 years old,(17 on 6th July!) and I´ve always loved Jaqne Austen´s books.Which,by the way,are not well-known here. It´s terribly frustrating!I want to become a computer engineer someday, and I´m a Star Wars freak( of the first trilogy at least).I like Ally McBeal(which,as EVERYTHING else arrives a year later to Spain!),the X files,Charlotte Brontë,Ewan McGregor,Harrison Ford,Colin Firth and nearly any kind of music. In fact,I just fall in love with a certain song and torture my family by singing it continually!
My family. My father,an opera freak who thinks he should´ve ended as Pavarotti instead of being a doctor. My stepmom, who is a cleaning freak and is always doing something, even if it´s cleaning the WALLS!!(Honestly!)My mum,who I don´t see(she and my dad got a divorce). My two brothers,Joaquin and Marco, who are older than me and instead of spoiling me (as they should) just make my life more difficult.I love Joaquin, but Marco is really trying(my poor nerves!).
I also have a foxterrier,Yonk, who is a dear.I´m considered the brainy one of the family and I have a terribly unuseful memory for quotes, lyrics and other non-useful data.
I promise to do my best to become a good dwiggie and never forget this page or the great people who nearly live here!

OK, my name is really Megan Woodworth, but I've always wanted to be a Lady and there are already Megans here.
I live in Fredericton, the capital city of New Brunswick which, for those of you unfamiliar with Canadian geography, is on the East coast.
I'm 21 and about to start my fourth year in the Bachelor of Arts programme (honours English and History) at the University of New Brunswick, which is in Fredericton. I intend to go on and get a PhD in 18th Century English literature focusing on (you guessed it!) Jane Austen! I'm also a musician - I play trombone and sing in a big band and drive the ridiculous yellow truck that belongs to the band. Do I play the piano? "Aye, but very ill, indeed!" (I like big band and jazz - stuff with horns and good piano bits!)
I'm a bit of a P&P missionary. So far I have 'converted' 7 of my friends with the A&E/BBC movie (which I've seen 15 times and counting!) P&P is by far my favourite book - I love Elizabeth and Darcy. In addition to Jane Austen, I read Fanny Burney, Ann Radcliffe, Henry Fielding, the Bronte sisters and a smattering of other stuff (including Harry Potter). I'm also a prime time drama-a-holic - West Wing, ER, JAG, CSI.
I think that about sums me up.
I absolutely love this place! Thank you for the brilliant (and hilarious) stories and the fabulous new characters.

I’ve been lurking for a couple of months now, so I thought I’d better introduce myself (and put Denmark on the map).
My name is Lajla and my birthday is October 6th 1979. Born and raised in Aabenraa and I still live here with my dog Oscar, two cats, a rabbit and a whole lot of fish. I work in an archive where I do the books and dig up interesting things about people’s pasts. I also work for The Historical Society of Sønderjylland. There I have to do everything, because I’m the only one who works there. I answer the phones, sell books and for two months now I’ve forgotten to pay myself on time (it’s really annoying that I have to do everything myself!!).
How did I get hooked on Jane Austen? Actually I rented Bridget Jones Diary on DVD one day and watched the extras. Helen Fielding was talking about how she saw P&P on TV and got inspired by it. I accidentally took a look in the TV-guide and saw that some channel was showing the first episode the next day. Watched it, loved it and was very, very sad that I had to wait a week to watch the next episode. I just had to know what was going to happen with Lizzy and Mr. Darcy, so I went to the library and took the book home. Read the book and when I realised that they weren’t going the show episode two until three weeks later (because of World Cup football) I was nearly going mad. Then I just had to have P&P on DVD so I bought it on an American website and I actually had to wait a month to get it!
That’s something about me…

Oh gosh, I'm not really good at bios.
Let's see. I grew up in Orange County, CA. Other than college, which was in Connecticut (go Wes!), I have lived in Southern California my entire life. I went to college on the East Coast 'cos I wanted to see what seasons were like. I decided I don't like them, so now I'm happily in San Diego, home of constant weather perfection.
Been in San Diego since October 1997. Same apartment and same job since then. I'm a book editor, I put together anthologies on social issues, history, and literature from previously-published sources. Two of my books were on English Romanticism and Satire. Both include articles on Jane Austen--Persuasion and NA respectively. As of February 2002, I believe I've edited close to 30 books. I began losing track a while ago. I like my job and my co-workers, I get to become an expert in a subject for a couple months, then go on to the next book.
As for my interests, I'm a sports fan; when I was a teenager and in college, I wanted to be a sportswriter (edited the sports section of the college paper my sophomore year), but that never panned out professionally. Love all sorts of rock music. I like movies and books that are funny but don't insult my intelligence. In addition to JA, I've faithfully read Lewis Carroll, L.M. Montgomery, J.K. Rowling, and a host of classic books. Though as I tell my friends, I'm an English major who hates reading LOL. That's not true, but I tend to prefer magazines and newspapers. My brother introduced me to Terry Pratchett's books last fall, so lately I've been reading lots of Discworld novels. Carrot and Angua have become one of my favorite lit couples, though they haven't quite reached Elizabeth/Darcy level : ).
Favorite TV shows include Friends, Ed, Alias, 24, Sportscenter, Pardon the Interruption, Gilmore Girls and--shamefully, but we all have our vices--Temptation Island. All-time favorite movie is This Is Spinal Tap, which should go a long way to explaining my sense of humor. I should note that the 3 movie DVDs I own are Spinal Top, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and the 1995 P&P. I also have Clerks on tape.
My favorite Jane novel is P&P, with NA in second place. I recently reread NA and have become quite smitten with Henry Tilney. It's been years since I last read MP and I confess I haven't been eager to read it again. I'm one of those folks who thinks Fanny is too self-righteous. I find myself liking Mary Crawford even though we're not supposed to.
I've written a few stories on BOI and am at present working on one here.
Hmm, I like all kinds of foods, particularly Italian/Mediterranean and Asian. My weakness is brownie sundaes.
I've managed to ramble much longer than I expected, so I'll stop here.

Hello
My name is Laura Michelle, I am currently 13, and I will be 14 as of October 25. I was born in Missouri, but came to Arizona after my heary surgery(I had a hole in my heart when I was born)
I started really writing when I was about 9 or 10, for Pemberley. But when they gave one of my stories back because it wasn't good enough for Pemberley, I moved here, to the DWG.
I love the friendly atmosphere here.
Anyways, I love to play basketball, volleyball, and softball. My parents are divorsed, but both live in Arizona, and I see my dad every other day. I'm in a bell chior called the Bronzeworks Bells, and this year they went to the Olymics. I'm just a newbie right now though
I'm in a chior at my school, I love to read(ALOT!)..and I think my favorite Jane Austen book would simply have to be Pride and Prejudice. I just can't get enough of the famous Mr. Darcy. Hes simply amazing, don't you agree?
Umm.. I have a brother, Josh, whos 21, and a sister, Peggy Jane, whos 25. I have a doggie too, his name is Charles Jasper Elvis Darcy. Charlie for short.
I love almost every kind of music, except most rap and country. I also like to write some poetry.
My email address's are MissPhantom345@aol.com and CountessPyra@aol.com.
If you want to chat or anything like that, IM or email me
Love always,

I am 35, married with two children and have lived in Arkansas for the last 3 years. I spent nearly 7 years in college to get my B.S./M.S. in chemistry but I have not used those degrees in gainful employment for the last 8 years!
Jane Austen is one of my favorite authors and I read P&P about once a year. I am thrilled to find so much fanfic available.

Hello!
My name is Laura Michelle, I am 13 years old,and I'll be 14 October 25, 2002. I absolutly love to read! Reading is so increidble for me! I also love to write. That is why I am here. I write poetry, short stories, long stories, what ever I have time or spirit to write. I am a student also, and right now I am in 7th grade( I am writing this on the 17th of February). I write because I love to express myself, to find new ideas and way of writting, anything,I just love to write. My friends and peers sometimes find me odd because of my love to read and write, but in the end, they almost always read my work. I am glad to be apart of Austen.com and the DWG, becuase I want to meet people like me, who love Mr. Darcy how no one else knows how, to express Emma in new ways Austen hadn't thought of herself, and just to completely disect the works of Austen and put them together with my own creativity, yet with keeping them altogether true to Miss Austen's work. I hope I will get to knoe you all and your work, and that you will enjoy my own.
Love always,
Laura Michelle

And a link: My webpage - which is SADLY in need of an update!!
Well, I swear I used to have a bio up here, but it seems to have disappeared. (Maybe that's my punishment for disappearing for a year! (-; ) So here's a new one:
I'm a student at the College of William and Mary, studying for a double major in History and International Relations. I absolutely ADORE everything Austen - P&P is my personal favorite, but I think the others are fantastic as well. :-D I was very much active in DWG about a year and a half ago (*blushing with embarrassment at long absence*), and am hoping to become so again.
I am left handed, play entirely too many musical instruments, and I am originally from the Washington, D.C. area. At school I sing with the Christopher Wren Singers (a small madrigal and renaissance group), and I am a member of Phi Mu (which is a sorority, for those you who don't recognize the name).
I have one younger sister, Caitlin (who is quite sick to death of my Austen obsession, bless her heart), and two cats. I speak French and am currently learning Italian, and, finally, one of my prized possessions is an autographed picture of Colin Firth. (-:

Hi, I'm a big huge Jane Austen fan. My grandmother gave me a copy of P&P when I was eleven, and things haven't been the same since. I recently saw the BBC adaptation and WOW! I was mucho impressed. I attend St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, and will hopefully be an English teacher one day.

I was born and raised in Alaska (yes, it is a part of the United States, it's NOT a foreign country), and am currently attending college in Massachusetts. I am a double major in Art History and English Literature with a minor in Italian. Yes, I know that's insane but I love learning, and art and literature are my two greatest passions. I love gourmet food, so it's a really good thing I enjoy working out. I'm not afraid of heights (trying to talk my dad into hangliding lessons this summer-- it's looking good!), and am rather adventerous when it comes to things outdoors. I ski (both alpine and nordic-- but I love nordic), sail, hike, climb, glissade, swim, row, run, lift weights, do yoga, am basically active. I love almost any music, but my favorites are classical, opera, musicals, rock, jazz, swing-- who am I kidding? I love any and all kinds of music. I sing alto in the school choir, and even though my voice is nothing special, I can hold a tune. I enjoy the finer things in life, so I had better get a well paying job when I finally graduate (I hope to go all the way to a Ph.D), otherwise I'm in trouble! *grin* I started reading Jane Austen when I was about nine or ten years old. Pride and Prejudice is my favorite, then Persuasion, then Emma, then Sense and Sensibilty, then Mansfield Park, then Northanger Abbey. I don't watch alot of TV, can't stand smoking, and I haven't drunk soda since I was in sixth grade.
I suppose if you want to know more, you'll have to catch me in chat sometime.

Hello. Having re-read my original bio (I was then but fifteen and am now twenty), I have decided it's time for a change.
I'm going to Grinnell College in Iowa, right now, with very little idea of what I want to do with my life. It's a fabulous school (Ann went there, too, so there's proof that it's great!) out in the middle of nowhere. I'm currently still planning to be an English major and hoping to study abroad Spring '05 in Venice and London. I'm very involved in the Young, Gifted, and Black gospel choir. I'm not black, but no one cares, and it's a lot of fun. I'm also very involved in Grinnell College's Christian Fellowship, but live with 11 of my best friends who are basically secular in a group draw on campus. It's a lot of fun, though not a lot of studying gets done.
I was born and raised in an old farm house (1867) in a small, quiet town in the river valley that likes to pretend it's a little bigger than it is. I've lived in the same house all my life, and love it dearly though it's creaky and small. Think Barton Cottage quaint, but in the farmhouse style. I have two older sisters, whom I love very much (not that we admit it). The eldest is a case worker for Catholic Charities and the middle one is a junior high and high school math teacher. We're a closely knit family, despite my mother's fears that my sisters and I would grow up to hate each other (she was an only child--didn't understand the constant fighting). I rely on my sisters a great deal. Think Dashwood sisters (the Bennets are too opposite in temperament).
Some of my likes include reading (especially Jane Austen), writing (especially Jane Austen fanfic), singing (especially jazz and showtunes--Ella Fitzgerald is my idol), and hanging out with my friends. I collect old antique looking books and records. My pride and joy is a collection of Gershwin&Gershwin songs played by Eddie Condon and his orchestra and signed by Eddie to my friend's great-grandfather (the records were a gift to me from my friend's mother). My humor tends to be irreverant, but my mother (Peg--she's a Dwiggie, too) says I'm rather like Catherine Morland.
There's a story that goes with that. I was about fourteen, and still hadn't really moved past Pride and Prejudice, yet. My mother told me I was like Catherine Morland--very curious and imaginative. Sounded great to me! So, naturally, I wanted to read about myself. I borrowed my mother's volume, read the first page, which begins, "No one who had ever seen Catherine Morland in her infancy would have supposed her born to be an heroine," and promptly put the book down, again. It is now, however, possibly my favorite Jane Austen novel, and I read it every year on my birthday, the 13th of September.
I met Jane Austen when I was thirteen, thanks to my mother, who I'm sure was sick of me wasting my money on Babysitters Club books. I grew up watching Greer Garson and Laurence Oliver portray Lizzy and Darcy in their version of Pride and Prejudice (P&P0, if you will) and love the movie dearly, even if it is nothing like the book. The first time I read Pride and Prejudice I didn't quite get it and began rereading it immediately. Then I'd read it, take a month or two off, read it again, etc. Then I finally moved onto Sense and Sensibility and the other four wonders of the nineteenth century world.
My sister found the Pemberley website her first year of college (also at Grinnell), when she took a Jane Austen tutorial. (I'm exceedingly jealous that they don't offer it, anymore.) She passed it on to my mother who then shared it with me. I was at Pemberley seven years ago (!) and have been with DWG since the beginning in one form or another, when it was still just the Spring. I haven't written in a loooong, long time and have basically been reduced to lurker status. I do have several finished and unfinished works in the archives. However, I like to think my writing has improved a little since the age of thirteen and have begun a Charlotte Collins story that I am enjoying writing very much and hope to actually finish before I post. I had almost forgotten how once you start writing, it envelops your entire world. College doesn't always leave a lot of room for that.
DWG is still my haven that I go to when I can't concentrate on writing a paper or my friends are driving me insane (as living with 11 girls will do to anyone, espcially these girls! They're really hilarious). It's also been a huge part of forming who I am and what my likes and dislikes are over the past seven years, so this is also where I come when I feel like I need to recover a little of my teenage self (head over heels for Edward Ferrars, as any girl with sense should be).

Hi!
My name is Lee and I'm a born & bred Southern girl, who loves grits, fried chicken, green beans & cornbread. I am 44 and a married woman with a 23-year-old son. As Lizzy would say, I have pleasure in many things, such as reading, (however I am not a great reader...) writing, camping, going to church and my family. I found Pride and Prejudice quite by accident one morning. It was already into episode 2, where they go to the Lucas' for the dinner party. I turn it on just in time to see Mr. Darcy staring at Lizzy and, from there I was hooked. I had not read the book, but did after finding the movie. My favorites, other than Pride and Prejudice are Persuasion and Sense & Sensibility. I love to read the fan fic and visit the tea room. Keep up the good work, all you authors! Write lots more stories!!!

Hmm. Among some other things, I: was born on a Thursday afternoon in 1979; study Hungarian language and culture (with some General Linguistics and Literature on the side) at the University of Helsinki; play the piano and the flute and sing to myself whenever no one can hear me; read everything from cereal boxes to newspapers to poetry (favourites from Agatha Christie to Sylvia Plath and from Hemingway to Donna Tartt); love all of JA's works; have developed a special relationship with Mansfield Park and the Juvenilia; write quite a lot of nonsense; love movies (favourites include Kolya, Annie Hall, A Room with a View, The Reds, Persuasion, Shakespeare in Love, Bullets over Broadway, and others); still don't know what I want to be if I ever grow up; have a slightly twisted sense of humour; am very much a city person; am not a morning person; laugh; excel in procrastinating; like cats, rain, Bach's Goldberg Variations, marzipan, black-and-white photographs and the sea. Am a Dwiggie.

hi,
I am Leia Hoban, older sister of the crazy twins Sandy and John.....
I am at the moment studying in Japan, which is why I have very limited internet access.
I guess that I am not all that good about writing about myself, but I am doing my best.
Like my nearly sub human twin blister,
I play hockey, but actually not really intending to boast at all I was better than them, they can probably tell you that themselves. I also fence. it is funny, it seems as if they follow me every where. I managed to escape for a year though........ I year of peace and tranquility!!!!! It seems that I enjoy most of the things that my blister do, but not the dune books, actually I dont know havent read one.
well I guess that is about all that I can think of.
I am a little shorter than sandy,
but dont tell her this, because I like to tell her that I am actually taller.....I am older after all.! and I guess that we weigh about the same, although I dont really know. In my formative years I was a gymnast, but I gave that up when my coach moved to England
oh that is what I forgot..... I am 19, going on 20 in about half a month!!!
and coming home a couple of weeks after that....... although I love Japan, I guess that I will be happy to be home,
well I guesst that is about all, I hope that I havent made a complete fool of myself.
